SDS Drill Bit for Concrete Project

In life, drill bits are used to drill holes in a variety of different materials, SDS drill bits for concrete are excellent choices, but if you want get better results, you need to pay attention to the following points:

 1. Select the type of drill according to the type of task

1) SDS Plus: For light to medium duty tasks such as drilling small to medium sized holes in concrete or masonry. Commonly used for DIY and light construction work.

2) SDS Max: For heavy-duty tasks such as drilling large holes in thick concrete or chiseling. Commonly used for professional and large construction projects.

2. Choosing the right size

1)Diameter: Choose the diameter according to the size of the hole required. Smaller diameters (e.g. 5-12 mm) are used for tasks such as installing wall plugs, while larger diameters (e.g. 16-30 mm) are used for anchoring bolts or pipes.

2)Length: Consider the depth of the hole. Standard lengths are suitable for shallow holes, longer bits (300 mm or more) are for deeper holes.

-SDS Plus drill bits

-Diameters typically range from 4mm to 30mm, with common diameters being 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, etc.

-Lengths typically range from 110mm to 1000mm, with common lengths of 160mm, 210mm, 260mm, 310mm, 460mm and more.

-Suitable for general construction and renovation tasks, smaller hole diameters, shorter bits for shallow holes and longer bits for deeper holes.

-SDS Max drill bits

-Diameters typically range from 12mm to 50mm or larger, with common diameters of 18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, etc.

-Lengths typically range from 300mm to 1500mm or longer, with common lengths of 400mm, 600mm, 800mm, 1200mm, etc.

-Suitable for heavy construction work, heavy drilling tasks with large diameters and deep holes, such as drilling deep holes or penetrating thick concrete structures.

3.Selecting the right drill bit head type

1) Cross head (four cutting edges): Cross head drill bits usually have four cutting edges that form a cross shape. This design helps to evenly distribute the pressure when drilling, improving the stability and accuracy of drilling. Commonly used for heavy-duty tasks that require high precision and stability, such as drilling holes in reinforced concrete.

-Efficient drilling: With more cutting edges, Cross head drills reduce vibration during drilling, making drilling smoother.

-Penetrates rebar: The cross head design is ideal for drilling holes in concrete where rebar is encountered and can be easily penetrated without damaging the drill bit.

-Smooth Hole Diameter: Drilled holes are often smoother and more rounded, making it suitable for tasks that require a high degree of precision.

2) Single head(two cutting edges): Single head drill bit usually has only two cutting edges and is shaped like a straight line or “chisel”. Suitable for general construction and renovation tasks, such as drilling holes in plain concrete or brick walls without reinforcement.

-Simple construction: Due to the small number of cutting edges, the design of a one-piece drill is simpler and cheaper to manufacture.

-Fast drilling: suitable for fast drilling in ordinary concrete or masonry, but not as effective as Cross head when encountering steel reinforcement.

-Prone to wear: Due to fewer cutting edges, the pressure during drilling is concentrated in a smaller area and the drill bit wears out relatively fast.

4. Check the material and coating

1)Tungsten carbide tips: Look for bits with tungsten carbide tips that are durable and can withstand the impact of drilling into concrete and rebar.

2) Coatings: Some drill bits have rust-resistant coatings or special coatings that increase durability and reduce friction.

5. Consider project needs

1)Rebar considerations: If the project involves drilling through rebar, make sure the SDS drill bit is designed for that purpose. Some drill bits have specially reinforced tips that are designed to cut through metal.

2)Hole accuracy: If hole accuracy is critical, choose a cross head or four-blade drill bit, which provides more precise drilling.

By referring to the above points, through careful selection and proper configuration, you can ensure optimal performance and results in concrete drilling operations. If you want more information, you can check here contact us!!!We are a very experienced drill bit manufacturer, We'd be happy to discuss it with you.
